The Greater Male' Interconnection Grid's services have been interrupted.
Utility company STELCO said the grid, which provides power to Male', Hulhumale', and Hulhule', went offline when the STELCO's main distribution cable sustained damages while the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) was carrying out road building work in Hulhumale'. STELCO said some areas in Male' will not have power until the issue is resolved and the interconnection is back in operation.
'We are working to bring the interconnection to operation status at the earliest. We apologize for the inconveniences caused,' a media official from STELCO said.
Male', Hulhumale', and Hulhule' were linked via a network last July. The main powerhouse providing service to the three areas is located in Hulhumale'.
