Parliament to broadcast sign language interpretation of sittings

The Parliament will be broadcasting its sessions with sign language interpretation.

The Parliament Secretariat said Speaker Mohamed Nasheed made the decision after a hard of hearing student requested the Speaker to include sign language interpretation of parliament sessions at the 'Practice Parliament for Youth'. During the session, the Speaker had assured the student that he would facilitate the arrangement.

The sign language interpretation will be presented by Mariyam Faznee. Faznee is now an employee at the Parliament.

The Parliament Secretariat said sign language interpretation would be given at all Parliament sittings. Committee meetings will also be broadcast with sign language interpretation in the future.
