Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and Galolhu North MP Eva Abdulla has said Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz 'Inthi' Fahmy would win the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Chairperson election in a landslide victory.
Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail and MP Imthiyaz are going head to head in MDP's Chairperson election slated for May 14.
Eva has been traveling to several islands to garner support for Imthiyaz. On Friday, during her current tour to Thaa atoll, Eva said she had traveled to 111 islands thus far alongside Imthiyaz. She said she saw a hopeful picture from all islands, and that she was confident that Imthiyaz would attain a landslide victory.
'If Thaa atoll MDP remains [in this spirit], Inthi will win this election for sure,' she said.
Imthiyaz is backed by Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed, Nasheed's family, and his loyal followers. Meanwhile, Fayyaz has the support of the majority of the party's National Council members and top government officials.
