Eurowings Discover commences direct flights to the Maldives

Eurowings Discover has commenced direct flights between Maldives' main international airport, VIA, and Frankfurt Airport.

Eurowings Discover is a German airline headquartered in Frankfurt. It is owned by the Lufthansa Group.

VIA's operator, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), said the airline would operate three weekly flights to the Maldives. While the first flight landed at VIA on Sunday, a special ceremony was held at VIA on Sunday to mark the occasion. A water salute was given to the aircraft, and the passengers received a warm welcome.

The German tourism market has been growing rapidly in recent months. Currently, over 30 airlines operate to the Maldives, including major European airlines. Over half a million tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year.
