Statistics have shown that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigated and concluded 588 cases last year.
ACC's official figures show that 782 cases were lodged at the commission last year. However, including open cases from previous years, a total of 806 cases were registered at the commission.
While 588 cases were closed in 2021, this is 38 percent less than the number of cases closed in 2020. The commission had concluded 961 cases in 2020.
Last year, ACC instructed relevant authorities to recover MVR 2.1 million lost to corruption.
It is also the responsibility of ACC to instruct state entities to rectify issues within their institution that paves the way for corruption. In this regard, ACC notified entities of such issues 341 times last year.
In 2021, the commission investigated 24 cases on its own accord. Last year, ACC held 51 awareness sessions and reached 1,775 people through the sessions.
