The Islamic Ministry has said over MVR 5.5 million was collected as Zakat-al-Fitr by Ramadan 26.
The Islamic Ministry on Thursday said 107,132 people had paid MVR 5,583,326.44 as their obligatory annual alms thus far this Ramadan.
Last year, the ministry collected MVR 5,567,851 from 135,743 people as Zakat-al-Fitr during the same period.
The ministry has made arrangements to collect Zakat Payments through its website as well as other payment platforms such as Dhiraagu Pay and SMS, Ooreedoo's M-Faisaa and SMS, and Maldives Islamic Bank's mobile banking service, Fahi Pay, and Bank of Maldives' designated portal. The last date on which Zakat can be paid through the platforms is April 29 / Ramadan 28. However, payments will be collected from Islamic Ministry's counters and through Bandeyri Portal until the last day of Ramadan.
