PPM to expel councilwoman Nahla from party

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has made the decision to expel Male' City Council member Nahla Ali from the party.

The party's disciplinary committee made the decision on Sunday after looking into complaints that the councilwoman was spreading false rumors that portrayed the party's leadership in a bad light. She is also accused of anti-campaigning for PPM's candidate in the upcoming Villimale WDC by-election and actively working to gather support for the opposing candidate.

According to PPM, the party decided to boot the councilwoman from the party after finding evidence that proved the allegations. The party also said the councilwoman used the party's leader and former President of the Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's name to spread false information and create conflict between party members.

In addition to Nahla, her mother, Aminath Leela, will also be removed from party membership.
