Statistics have shown that the Maldives imported goods worth MVR 4.7 billion in April this year.
According to Maldives Customs Service, the value of imports increased by 63 percent in April compared to the same period last year. Imports stood at MVR 4.7 billion in April, while they stood at MVR 2.9 billion during the same month last year.
The government's revenue increased in April this year compared to the same month last year due to the increase in imports. Revenue stood at MVR 26 million in April last year as against MVR 362 million in the same period in 2021.
Most goods were imported from Oman, India, and the UAE in April. Goods worth MVR1.4 billion were imported from Oman, while goods worth MVR 655 million were imported from India. The Maldives also imported goods worth MVR 534 million from UAE last month.
According to the statistics, exports stood at MVR 231 million in April last year. Customs received MVR 8.9 million in royalties during the period.
