Goods worth MVR 5.6 bln imported in Dec '22

The Maldives imported goods worth MVR 5.6 billion in December last year.

According to statistics released by Maldives Customs Service, imports of goods increased by 27 percent in December 2022 compared to December 2021. In December 2021, imports stood at MVR 4.4 billion against MVR 5.6 billion last year.

Customs revenue in December 2022 was two percent lower than in the same period in the previous year. In December 2021, customs revenue stood at MVR 364 million, against MVR 356 million in December last year.

The Maldives exported goods worth MVR 299 million in December last year. That is a 35 percent increase over December 2021. In December 2021, the country exported goods worth MVR 221 million.

France was the largest importer of goods to the Maldives in December 2922. The country imported goods worth MVR 766 million, while Oman imported goods worth MVR 754 million, and India imported goods worth MVR 724 million. Meanwhile, Singapore imported goods worth MVR 694 million, and China imported goods worth MVR 532 million.

The Maldives exported the most goods to Thailand in December last year.
