State Minister at the Education Ministry Ahmed Riyaz has been suspended.
The President's Office's Spokesperson, Mabrook Azeez Sunday, said Riyaz was suspended in connection with an ongoing case. He did not provide details on what was being investigated.
AVAS has learned that Riyaz was suspended due to a sexual harassment investigation. He is accused of sexually harassing two female employees working in the ministry.
Riyaz is the head of PSIP projects under the Ministry of Education. He was appointed as the State Minister on a Jumhooree Party slot. However, he has since joined Maldives National Party (MNP).
State Minister Riyaz is the older brother of MNP Vice President and Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz.
