Aarah money laundering trial to be livestreamed

Hearings in former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's Aarah case will be live-streamed from the Criminal Court from Thursday onward.

Yameen has been charged with money laundering and accepting bribes in relation to the sale of V. Aarah. While the preliminary stage of the trial has reached completion, the trial is set to begin soon.

During the preliminary stage, Yameen's lawyers repeatedly requested that the cases be broadcast live to ensure fairness. However, Criminal Court's Chief Justice Ahmed Shakeel had repeatedly said that the court did not have the facilities to broadcast the case live. However, he said he would make the arrangements in time for when the trial started.

Accordingly, the Criminal Court has now facilitated the arrangements to live stream the trial. According to the court, the hearings will be broadcast live on the Criminal Court's YouTube channel.

The first hearing in the trial is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday.
