Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is preparing to launch minibus services in Male' City next month.
MTCC's CEO Adam Azim made the announcement after signing the "Rakkaa Road Safety Partnership" agreement on Wednesday.
The launch of minibus services in the city is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential pledges to be completed within 100 days of taking office.
Azim said a large number of small buses would travel in Male' City streets on Thursday. However, the minibus service will officially start next month, he added.
"More than 50 of our buses will start operating in the Male' area," Azim said.
An agreement was signed between MTCC and the Transport Ministry in 2019 to start the minibus service. After delays in introducing the service, Transport Minister Aishath Nahla had said the delays were due to a lack of funds.
