Cash card payments to be accepted on buses from August

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)'s Managing Director, Adam Azim, has said that Bank of Maldives (BML) cash cards can be used for bus services from August this year.

Currently, bus cards are used when traveling by bus. Customers have always complained about having to use cash to top up the bus cards.

Replying to a tweet about the difficulties encountered due to the current payment arrangements, Azim said that from August 1, bus fares can be paid using a QR code and a 'Touch and Go' BML card. BML Visa, American Express, and MasterCard cards can be used to pay the fare.

The MasterCard service offered jointly by MTCC and BML will become the exclusive payment network of Transit Card under Raaje Transit Link (RTL). MasterCard will also enable transit-related payments through all other networks accepted by BML.

MTCC added more buses to its fleet and put them into service this month. With the new buses, the number of buses used in the Greater Male' Area has increased to 46. These include 23 double-deck buses, city buses, and coaches.
