Two women who robbed foreigner sentenced to prison

Two women who robbed a foreigner have been sentenced to four months in prison.

In the incident that occurred on November 7, 2018, two women, Fathimath Nashaya and Khadeeja Shaima, lured Bangladeshi citizen Robelmia to Nashaya's home and robbed him of USD 3,335 and a Samsung 8 Plus phone. The state raised larceny charges against them, to which they initially pleaded not guilty. They later pleaded guilty and requested the court for a lighter sentence than imprisonment.

The Criminal Court on Thursday found both guilty by their admission of guilt and other evidence. The judge sentenced the pair to four months in jail, along with 96 hours of community service and a fine of MVR 24,000.
