Pres inquires about Madaveli situation following severe storm surges

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday spoke on the phone with the Island Council President of Madaveli Island in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Fiyaz Hassan, and inquired about the situation on the island after tidal surges caused by severe weather continue to affect large parts of the country. Madaveli Island was one of the worst affected by the storm surges.

On the call, President Solih inquired about the situation on the island and the well-being of its residents. The President was briefed by Fiyaz Hassan about the damage caused by flooding and the ongoing relief efforts. The President assured the council that the administration would extend any necessary assistance to the island.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) earlier reported that storm surges had affected 22 islands across seven atolls. The NDMA is working on assisting the affected islands.
