President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday spoke on the phone with the Island Council President of Fenfushi Island in the South Ari Atoll and inquired about the situation following an incident resulting in a youth drowning.
Two young men aged 19 and 23 drowned in Fenfushi during severe tidal surges. While both men were rescued, they were in serious condition when found. One of the men, identified as Eesa Junah, 23, from Th. Dhiyamigili, passed away while being treated at ADh. Mahibadhoo Hospital.
President Solih was briefed about the situation on the island after it was affected by storm surges caused by the severe weather conditions across the country. President Solih extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the drowned victim.
The President also assured the council that the administration would extend any necessary assistance to the island following the damage caused by storm surges.
