Two COVID-19 deaths over 24 hours

Two new COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in the Maldives. The deaths bring the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 308.

The two deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours: an 80-year-old woman who passed away on Thursday evening at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility and a 73-year-old woman who died on Friday morning at IGMH.

Of the 308 deaths in the country, 289 were locals, most of them elderly. However, very young children and youth are also among those who pass away due to COVID-19. Nineteen foreigners died in the Maldives from the illness.

The Maldives has experienced four dangerous waves of the virus. During these waves, the disease spread widely, and many people were infected daily. Several deaths were also recorded during the waves, including 13 deaths on the same day.

The HPA has urged people to take precautions as the number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise once again.
