Equipment delivered to commence L. Gan housing project

The equipment needed to commence the construction of 100 housing units in L. Gan has been delivered to the island.

SJ Construction was awarded the contract for the construction of 100 housing units in Gan island on May 30, 2021.

The company has already transported some of the materials, vehicles and employees required for the project to the project site.

Speaking to AVAS, Gan Council's Vice President Ibrahim Rasheed said SJ employees were fully prepared to go to the island and start the work. However, the island council has not yet completed some arrangements, and the SJ will start work once the pending tasks are completed on Sunday, he said.

"We will officially hand over the land where the housing units will be built to them tomorrow. They are ready," Ibrahim said.

The councilor added that SJ assures that the housing units will be completed within the given time frame.

The Gan housing unit project is funded under the PSIP budget approved for the year. The cost of the project is MVR 84.4 million. SJ Construction Company will be designing and building the housing units under the project. The project is expected to be completed within one year.

The Planning Ministry said each housing unit will have 1,000 square feet. Each housing unit will have three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry and a store room. The housing units will receive plenty of natural light. A park and vehicle parking area will also be established for recreation, the Planning Ministry said.
