Construction of Gan housing units awarded to SJ Construction

The construction of 100 housing units in Laamu Gan has been awarded to SJ Construction.

The contract agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Planning Ministry on Monday by Director General at Planning Ministry Ahmed Vishan Naseem and SJ Construction's Director Shihad Ibrahim.

Under the agreement, SJ Construction Company is expected complete the design and build of the housing units within one year. The cost of the project is MVR 84.4 million. The project will be funded from the PSIP budget approved for this year.

The Planning Ministry said each housing unit would be 1,000 square feet, with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry, and a storeroom.

In addition, the housing units will have natural light entering from all directions to create a comfortable environment for the residents. A recreational park and vehicle parking area will also be established, the Planning Ministry said.

The government has allocated MVR 1.5 billion for housing projects in 13 islands. The contract for Gan is the first agreement signed under the initiative.
