Will strengthen ties with the Maldives: Chinese amb

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Weng Lixin has said that she would work to take relations between China and Maldives to new heights. The Ambassador made the remark in a video message sent on the occasion of the Maldives' Independence Day.

In her message, the Ambassador said the Maldives and China are long-standing friends, and both countries maintain a beneficial relationship with each other. She assured that China would like to strengthen its relations with the Maldives further.

The Ambassador also sent felicitations to the President and the people of the Maldives on behalf of the President and the people of China.

"On behalf of the Chinese government and people, may I wish the Republic of Maldives enjoy prosperity and its people well-being and happiness," the Ambassador said.

China has always provided assistance to the Maldives in various fields. The Chinese government has implemented major development projects under the previous administration,

Diplomatic relations between China and Maldives were established on October 14, 1972. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between both countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid an official visit to the Maldives on January 7 to kick off the celebrations to mark the anniversary.

The Maldives opened an embassy in China in 2007 to further strengthen relations between the two countries. A Chinese Embassy was opened in the Maldives on November 8, 2011.
