Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof has been appointed as the Chair of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s newly formed By-election Committee.
Mahloof is also the President of the North Central Province of the MDP's National Assembly.
MDP has suffered losses in recent by-elections, prompting the party to create a special committee for by-elections. While the committee's work has already commenced, its first task is preparing for the M. Dhiggaru and Th. Gaadhiffushi council by-elections, which are scheduled for August 13th.
Abdulla Arif is contesting the Dhiggaru Council by-election on the MDP ticket, and Zulaikha Ahmed is vying for the seat allocated for women in the Gaadhiffushi council by-election on the party's behalf.
