Planning Minister urges all to participate in census

Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam has urged everyone to consider the upcoming census as a national service and participate in the census.

The Bureau of Statistics of the Maldives is the main agency that plans and conducts the census. The minister in charge of the agency is Planning Minister Aslam.

In a video message, Minister Aslam said the census gathers the basic information needed to plan and implement national development projects. The minister said the census is how the people can be most involved in planning for the country's development. Development plans for islands, atolls and regions will be planned based on the information given in the census, he said.

“My request to all of you is to see this census as 'my census' and participate in this,” he said.

The census is scheduled to begin on September 13. Four thousand three hundred enumerators have been recruited for the census, and 100 trainers have been recruited to train them. One thousand nine hundred ninety-one enumerators will work in the atolls, while 2,409 enumerators will be active in the Greater Male' Area.

This year's census will include a census of population, residential homes, and economic activity centers. The census data collection will be conducted from September 13 to 25 this year.

The provisional results are scheduled to be announced on October 6 this year, while the final results will be announced on October 20, National Statistics Day.

The last census was conducted in the Maldives in 2014. The population of the Maldives was 402,071, according to the census conducted that year. The exact number of foreigners in the Maldives is not clear.
