The largest percentage of the state budget has been utilized by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure so far this year.
According to information provided by the Finance Ministry, the Planning and Housing Ministry has spent more than MVR 3 billion from this year's budget.
In this year’s budget, the Ministry of National Planning Housing and Infrastructure was allocated MVR 3.9 billion. From this amount, MVR 3 billion has been spent thus far. With five months remaining in the year, it is now expected that the Planning Ministry will spend more than the budget allocated for the year.
The second largest percentage of the budget was utilized by the Education Ministry. While the ministry was allocated a budget of MVR 3 billion, the ministry has spent MVR 1.9 billion so far.
So far this year, the state has spent MVR 21.4 billion from the MVR 34 billion budget allocated for the year, the bulk of the expenditure so far being on recurrent expenditure. At a time when the government's spending has increased dramatically, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has said the government would take a number of measures to cut spending.
