Parliament approval sought to appoint non-resident amb to six countries

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is seeking Parliament approval to appoint the Maldivian Ambassador to Germany, Aishath Shan Shakir, as a non-resident ambassador to six countries.

During Thursday's Parliament sitting, the Parliament's Secretary General read out a letter from the President seeking a Parliament decision on approving Shan's appointment as non-resident ambassador to six countries. The countries are Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Ukraine. As a non-resident ambassador, Shan will continue to work from Germany.

Non-resident ambassadors are usually appointed to countries that do not have embassies.

The Parliament approved Shan's appointment as Ambassador to Germany on May 24 this year. Her credentials were given on July 20. Prior to her appointment as German Ambassador, Shan served as Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry.
