Pres Solih will win a second term: Min. Shahid

Foreign Minister and the 76th UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid has said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will win a second term in the upcoming presidential election.

Shahid made the statement in an interview given to India's 'The Print' media during his official visit to India this week in the capacity of the UNGA President.

Shahid said the President had done very good things for the people so far, and that the people had accepted his efforts.

Shahid also spoke about the "India Out" campaign being conducted by the opposition parties. He said the India Out campaign was an irresponsible act against the country's neighbors by people who have nothing they can do for the development of the people.

Shahid's visit to India coincided with an unofficial visit to India by Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed. Nasheed has also expressed high interest in contesting the 2023 Election. He has said that giving a second term to President Solih is not the right move for the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) at this time.
