The Maldives' Election Commission (EC) described the recent presidential election as the most fair and free in the country's history.
At a ceremony held to announce the official results of the election, EC's Vice President Ismail Habeeb said the presidential election was conducted without fear, intimidation, or violence.
Habeeb further noted that candidates who had previously lost elections often made accusations against the EC, but no such claims had been made this time. He commended incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the losing candidate, for setting a democratic example.
The official results confirmed that Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the candidate of the PNC-PPM coalition, won the election with 54.04% of the total votes.
