MTCC begins charging bus fare for minibus service

MTCC has started charging bus fare for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service in the Greater Male' Area.

The minibus service was launched in the capital city on August 5. Bus fare was not charged for the first four weeks of service. Since the launch of the minibus service, around 130,000 passengers have traveled via the buses to date.

MTCC began charging a bus fare of MVR 7 per trip on Monday. However, children under the age of three, students in uniform, and those over 65 can travel free of charge. MTCC requests passengers to bring the exact fare amount if paying in cash. The decision was taken as it would take time to give change, and could cause delays to the bus schedule, said MTCC.

Bus QR tickets are also available through the RTL website and application. The RTL mobile application can be downloaded from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

The minibus service is organized to cover four neighborhoods of the city. A total of 40 bus stops have been established on the three bus routes, and buses will arrive at each stop every 15 minutes. Eighteen buses are being used to provide service, eight of which have ramps and wheelchair access for people with disabilities. There are 20 seats on special needs buses and 22 seats on other buses. In addition, ten people can travel standing.
