The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is preparing to commence bus services in Villimale'.
A statement issued by MTCC on Tuesday said the company had arranged an environmentally friendly electronic vehicle (EV) bus to provide RTL bus services within Villimale, which is currently not linked by land to Male' and Hulhumale'. Six EV buses will be used to provide services in Villimale', MTCC said.
MTCC said the EV bus would have a capacity of 15 passengers, with 11 seating and four standing spaces.
The final preparations are underway to start the bus service on January 20. MTCC said the bus route and schedule would be announced in the coming days.
While MTCC is preparing to begin bus services in Villimale', Male' City Council has also announced that buggy services would be commenced in Villimale' next month. Although private party already provides buggy services in Villimale', it is not being provided properly.
Villimale' is the only neighborhood in the city where fuel-operated vehicles are banned.
