Goods worth MVR 39 bln imported thus far this year

The Maldives' imports from January to September this year stood at MVR 39 billion.

According to the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) data, while goods worth MVR 39 billion have been imported thus far this year, imports stood at MVR 27 billion during the same period last year. This year's figures are up by MVR 12 billion compared to 2021.

Private imports this year amounted to MVR 26.8 billion, while public imports amounted to MVR 12.7 billion. The largest imports this year were oil products. As of end of September, imports of oil products including petrol, diesel and aviation, stood at MVR 9.77 billion. Food items were the next largest imports, with imports worth MVR 7.6 billion as of end September.

Imports of goods have increased this year while exports have also increased compared to last year.

Maldives exported goods worth MVR 4.3 billion as of end of September this year. The Maldives exported goods worth MVR 3 billion during the same period last year.
