On November 10, ten people died from burns and smoke inhalation in the most tragic fire incident in the Maldives in recent history. Nine bodies were recovered from the burning house in Maafannu, while another person died while being treated in a hospital. Three Indian women, five Indian men, a Bangladeshi man, and a woman were among the deceased.
A Bangladeshi man was being treated for burns in the Intensive Care Unit of state-run IGMH. An IGMH media officer told AVAS that the burn victim is now in recovery and that he had been shifted to the ward. However, no further details were given.
