Gov't increases number of expats allowed to work on fishing vessels

The number of foreigners allowed to work in a single fishing vessel has been increased.

With the new amendment to the regulations on planning, operation, and management of fisheries, the number of foreigners allowed to work on a fishing vessel will now be determined according to the size of the vessel.

The regulations previously prohibited foreigners from engaging in direct fishing in any fishing vessel within the scope of the regulations. However, it is stated that a maximum of two foreigners per vessel may be actively employed to provide security and cook for the vessel's crew for specific types of vessels.

With the amendment to the rules, a maximum of four foreigners can work on fishing vessels smaller than 15 meters, while six foreigners can work on vessels between 15 meters and 24 meters. A maximum of eight foreigners can work on vessels larger than 24 meters.

Foreigners can engage in fishing according to the rules and regulations made by the relevant government agencies. These workers must have valid work permits. Additionally, expatriates can only be employed on fishing vessels after obtaining the necessary government quotas.
