The air in the northern atolls is becoming dangerously polluted due to the dust and smoke blowing across the Bay of Bengal to the Maldives.
The National Meteorological Agency (Met Office) said the haze would cause severe air pollution in the north and central parts of the country.
The Met Office said air pollution in Kulhudhuffushi today stood at 74 on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which is a moderate level or normal. However, air pollution in the area stood at 169 AQI this Friday, which is classed "unhealthy" or dangerous to health.
"The air pollution was the most dangerous in the north on Friday. There has been a little improvement, but the current figure is also above normal," the Met Office spokesman said.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), it is unsafe for people with respiratory problems to frequent outdoors due to poor air quality. The HPA has also advised people to wear face masks as a precautionary measure when going out.
