The government has made an announcement seeking parties for the development of a "residential city" in Giraavarufalhu.
The project will be carried out on a cross-subsidy basis. The party that finances the project will be leased an island, land plot, or lagoon for tourism purposes.
The Economic Ministry has invited interested parties to submit the Expression of Interest (EOI) through the relevant forms. There is no submission deadline.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced in his inaugural address at the Parliament this year that 2,000 plots of land will be allocated to the people of Male' after dredging the Giraavarufalhu. The president said that an additional 3,000 plots of land and 4,000 flats would be built and allocated to the people of Male'. The construction of the flats has already started in Hulhumale'. Of the 3,000 plots, 2,000 plots will be allocated from Gulhifalhu and 1,000 plots from Hulhumale'.
