Pres Solih vows land allocation under Binveriyaa Scheme before November 5

Maldives President and MDP presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that the land allocated under the government's Binveriyaa Scheme will be handed over to recipients before November 5 this year.

At a campaign rally held at the MDP's Sosun booth on Thursday night, President Solih emphasized that previous governments had made promises to provide housing to the people of Male' City but that the current government took action after a 40-year hiatus in land allocation.

The President assured recipients that the land registry documents of the plots will be handed over before his term ends on November 5. If re-elected for a second term, he committed to providing financial assistance for building homes on the allocated land through a housing bank.

President Solih said some of the housing projects started during the former government caused a lot of grievances to the people, and the current government resolved these issues. He claimed that those who got flats from Gulheefalhu under the first MDP government were deprived of the flats by his rival candidate Dr. Mhahmed Muizzu while he was the Housing Mniser during President Abdulla Yameen's tenure.

A total of 18,955 individuals were deemed eligible for the Binveriyaa Scheme, and 9,003 plots are being issued in various combinations from Hulhumale', Gulheefalhu, and Giraavarufalhu. Some of the land allocated from Hulhumale has already been handed over to recipients. Since then, a new housing scheme targeted at long-term Male' residents has also been announced.
