Will win the primary by a large margin, says pres

President Ibrahim Mohamed has said he would win the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s upcoming presidential primary.

MDP has scheduled a primary to determine its presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election for January 28, 2023. President Solih will go head to head against former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed in the primary.

At a press conference at the President's Office on Wednesday, President Solih said his aim is to win the MDP primary. He said he was confident that he would win the primary by a large margin.

"First, I have to confirm my candidacy. Hopefully, I will win the MDP primary by a large margin," he said.

President Solih said after winning MDP's internal election, he would start forming a coalition with other parties. He said he hoped to get the support of the coalition members based on the implementation of the current coalition's policies. In addition to the current coalition members, the support of some individual politicians is already assured, he added.
