Former Planning Minister and current Male' City Council Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that 26 of the 47 harbor projects completed during the tenure of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were started during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen.
Member of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Hulhumale' MP Ali Niyaz recently said on the social media platform Twitter that 47 harbor projects had been completed during President Solih's tenure and that 36 such projects were ongoing.
Responding to the tweet, Mayor Muizzu said 108 harbor projects were completed by former President Yameen and that 26 harbors were under construction when President Solih's administration took over. These 26 harbor projects have been included in the figure for the number of harbor projects completed by President Solih, he said.
"When the government changed hands, 26 harbors were under construction. Out of the 47 ports that were completed during this government, 26 were started during Yameen's government," Muizzu said.
At a press conference at the President's Office on December 28, 2022, President Solih highlighted the government's achievements in the past four years. Port development work in 47 islands had been completed, and work was underway in another 36 islands, he had said.
President Solih has pledged to resolve harbor, water, and sewerage issues in all islands of the Maldives by the end of his five years in office.
