Court case dismissed after Addu Mayor repays outstanding loan

A court case against Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has been dismissed after he repaid an outstanding loan borrowed from the Bank of Maldives (BML).

Ali Nizar took out a loan of MVR 1,248,000 from BML, mortgaging land in his name and his restaurant, Cress Garden Restaurant. He was the Hithadhoo South MP at the time. The bank sued Nizar for non-payment when Nizar failed to repay the loan as per the agreement. The suit sought to collect the loan balance, interest, penalty, and service as one payment.

Nizar repaid the outstanding amount when the suit was filed by the bank. Therefore, the court last Thursday dismissed the case against the mayor.
