Addu City Council names newly dredged islands

Three islands dredged for resort development in southernmost Addu City have been named.

Last month, the Addu City Council invited the community to suggest names for three newly dredged islands in Addu. The council received suggestions from sixty individuals.

At a council meeting held today, the councilors present unanimously approved names for the three islands. The first of these islands, located in the northern section of Hithadhoo lagoon, has been named 'Dhondhooni Hera.' The second island, also situated in the Hithadhoo lagoon, is called 'Bolihera,' and the third island, situated in Meedhoo lagoon, is named 'Dhonhera Fenna.'

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar explained that an emergency meeting was held to expedite the naming process and attract investors for resort development on these islands. He emphasized that the development of the islands would bring about significant economic transformation in Addu City.

"Today marks a truly historic occasion, one that will be etched into Addu's history," he said.
