Maldives sets new record for daily tourist arrivals

The Maldives has welcomed a record number of tourists on a single day.

The Tourism Ministry said 8,028 tourists arrived in the Maldives on Saturday, setting a new record for the most number of tourists to visit the country in a single day following the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry congratulated all those involved in the tourism sector on the great achievement.

Statistics show that 240,621 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this year. The number of tourists that have visited the country thus far this year is up 32.2 percent compared to the same period over the last two years.

On average, 5,729 tourists visit the Maldives every day.

Russia is currently the top source market for Maldivian tourism, with 28,873 arrivals from the country. India follows behind with 24,124 arrivals. Italy comes third with 20,692 tourists.

The Maldives currently operates 59,896 beds in 1,217 tourism facilities in the country. These include 172 resorts, 880 guesthouses, and 152 safaris. In addition, 13 hotels and three homestays are also in operation.
