The Election Commission has approved the formation of the Green Party of Maldives.
The Election Commission granted permission to Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir to form the party on Monday. Jabir was handed over the party registry by EC's Vice-President Ismail Habeeb at a ceremony held at the Election Commission.
Jabir had earlier resigned from the leadership and membership of his previous party, DRP. Jabir's resignation from DRP came while the EC had decided to dissolve the party for failing to maintain the minimum number of members.
Jabir has previously been a member of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) as well as Jumhooree Party (JP).
