The by-election for the Parliament's Guraidhoo constituency will be held on April 15.
The Guraidhoo seat became vacant following the death of MP Ibrahim Riza, who passed away last Thursday while being treated for an intestinal ailment in Malaysia. Riza had been the Guraidhoo constituency MP since the 17th Parliament.
Article 79 of the Constitution states that a Parliament seat must be filled within 60 days from the date of vacancy.
Guraidhoo constituency by-election date was announced by Elections Commission member Ismail Habeeb, via a tweet published on Sunday. The candidacy forms to contest the seat will be accepted by EC for 14 days from Monday.
