Inflation rises to 0.96 percent

Statistics have shown that inflation rose to 0.96 percent last January.

According to the figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics, prices rose to 0.96 percent in January. The percentage was 0.49 percent in December 2022.

Excluding changes in fish prices, inflation stood at 0.92 percent, compared to 0.53 percent in December 2022. The highest increases were in salon service prices, increasing by 13.30 percent. The prices of diagnostic image and laboratory services increased by 6.75 percent, while tobacco prices rose by 4.99 percent. The restaurant and cafe' sector prices rose by 4.42 percent.

Meanwhile, the prices of fruits and vegetables and mobile communication services saw price reductions. The prices of mobile communication services fell by 0.96 percent, while the cost of fruits fell by 0.82 percent and vegetables by 0.52 percent. Electricity and water prices, as well as sea transportation prices, also saw a decline.

One of the main reasons for the increase in prices is the increase in commodity prices with the increase of GST and TGST. GST has been increased from 6 percent to 8 percent and from 12 percent to 16 percent since January.
