The State Trading Organization (STO) has decided to reduce the prices of onions, eggs, and potatoes to coincide with the Holy month of Ramadan.
STO will be bringing six shipments of the items for Ramadan this year. The company aims to sell the items at cheaper prices than it was sold during Ramadan last year. The first shipment arrived on Monday and is currently being sold from STO People's Choice and Wholesale Center.
These items will be sold wholesale from STO Wholesale Centre, STO Industrial Village, and Roadha Mart being opened in Hulhumale'. The STO Industrial Village is scheduled to start selling goods from March 5, and Hulhumale' Ramadan Mart on March 20.
STO has also decided to send onions, eggs, and potatoes to 11 STO shops in 11 regions of the Maldives. STO will assist in making the products available from other islands.
STO will also be bringing other essential food items for the month of Ramadan and will also sell some items produced in the Maldives. Melons, bananas, papayas, watermelon, cucumbers, and chili will be available at STO Wholesale Centre, Roadha Mart, and Villimale shop.
If the market price of particular essential commodity increases, STO will try to control the price by lowering their prices, STO added.
