Joint committee reviews Thilamale' bridge project's progress

The Joint Committee formed to oversee the Thilamale' Bridge project has held a meeting to review the project's progress.

According to the Planning Ministry, the sixth review meeting was held last week. The last such meeting was held on November 29, 2022. The joint committee includes representatives of the relevant agencies of the Indian and Maldivian governments as well as representatives of the Exim Bank. The ministry said the latest information on the bridge project was discussed at the meeting.

After the meeting, the joint committee members visited the site where the bridge was being constructed.

The 6.695 km bridge project, which will include the bridge and a causeway, is funded by the Government of India. The bridge is being built with a $100 million grant from India and a $400 million loan from Exim Bank. The entire project is expected to cost over MVR 7.7 billion. The bridge construction agreement was signed with India's Afcons Infrastructure on August 26 last year. The practical work and related surveys and studies will also be conducted by AFCONS.
