The lack of doctors and availability of medicines for drug rehabilitation show how much the government prioritizes addressing the issue, Jumhooree Party leader and Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim said today.
Speaking at the Parliament in support of a resolution moved by Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef calling on the government to change the system to facilitate treatment for drug addicts, Qasim said it was clear how the government carried out the work it prioritized. The MP further said he could see how new jobs were transpiring in abundance in government companies to provide job opportunities for specific people, describing that as an area of interest for the government.
"The lack of staff, doctors, experts, and medicines in these areas [drug rehabilitaton] show just how much interest the government has in addressing this, the priority that the government gives to the issue," Qasim said.
Qasim further criticized the government for allowing foreigners who smuggle drugs into the Maldives to be deported by law. He said such laws would never allow drug peddlers to be arrested.
The MP further said that speaking up about robbery within state institutions is not speaking against the government or the president. He said if people think this is the case, then it is not a good thing.
