The Islamic Ministry has collected MVR 1.3 million in Fitr Zakat during the first ten days of Ramadan.
The Islamic Ministry today announced the statistics on the amount collected as Fitr Zakat during the first ten days of Ramadan for the past four years.
The amount received thus far during Ramadan this year is an increase compared to the same period of the previous two years.
Statistics of Fitr Zakat received during the first ten days of Ramadan:
Hijri Year 1441: MVR 1,533,844
Hijri Year 1442: MVR 977,301
Hijri Year 1443: MVR 1,092,547
Hijri Year 1444: MVR 1,310,160
The Islamic Ministry began accepting Fitr Zakat payments on March 23. The ministry said Zakat payments would be accepted till the 27th of Ramadan.
The amount for Zakat that has to be paid per individual is money worth 2.4 kg of the type of rice grain consumed by the person. This is approximately MVR 12 for those who use regular rice grains, MVR 84 for those who consume Thailand white rice grains, and MVR 84 for those who use regular Basmati Rice. While MVR 100 must be paid for high-quality Basmati Rice and MVR 125 for premium-grade Basmati Rice, red rice is equivalent to MVR 99. The rate for regular flour equals MVR 12 and MVR 75 for Atta flour.
