Maafushi Council amends point awarding policy for land allocation

The rules on land allocation in K. Maafushi have been amended to limit the opportunity for those from outside Maafushi.

A 25-hectare area was dredged in Maafushi by MTCC in 2021. Three hundred land plots of 2000 sqft will be issued from the newly-dredged area in Maafushi.

According to the rules first announced by the Maafushi Council last Thursday, points would not be deducted for those applying for land who are not from Maafushi. However, the rule has now been amended and gazetted such that points will be deducted for applicants who have not been registered to Maafushi since birth.

As per the current rule, 30 points will be deducted if a person who is not a resident of Maafushi applies for land. Twenty additional points will also be awarded to those over 40 years of age.

Apart from Male', Maafushi has one of the highest land values. The requirements for applying for land from Maafushi include not owning any land or land over 600 sqft on any island of the Maldives. Any land owned that is smaller than 600 sqft must be given up if they get land from Maafushi.

The deadline for submitting applications for land is June 15 this year.
