Maldives customs have seized gold being smuggled into the Maldives via ingestion.
According to customs, a passenger who arrived in the Maldives from Abu Dhabi on March 17 on a Wizz Air flight attempted to smuggle in gold hidden in his body. The 43-year-old Indian national was carrying 361 grams, including packaging.
Customs said the passenger was marked due to suspicious behavior, and a body scan was conducted for further examination, which showed objects hidden inside his body. When questioned about the items, the passenger admitted to having gold inside his body, customs said.
