Parliament Speaker and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has requested the Maldives Police Service to identify the people behind the @HassanKurusee Twitter handle.
"Hassan Kurusee" is a fictional character in some of Nasheed's writings.
In a letter addressed to Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed, Nasheed said the Twitter account has caused confusion among the public. Many assume that the account is run by Nasheed, he said, adding that he was suffering immensely as a result. He therefore requested the commissioner to look into the account.
The @HassanKurusee Twitter account is a verified account on the popular social media platform. The account frequently publishes tweets criticizing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Cabinet ministers, and some parliament members.
