Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the contentious X handle, @HassanKurusee, is not operated by him or his daughter, Meera Laila Nasheed.
Nasheed's clarification comes amid a brewing controversy on X in response to a tourism promotion video posted by Indian PM Narendra Modi, in which @HassanKurusee has been making provocative replies to Indian accounts. Several Indian accounts have accused Nasheed and his daughter of running the said account.
In response to the allegations, Nasheed took to X to distance himself and his daughter from the account, asserting that it has no affiliation with him. He further expressed disagreement with the anti-India rhetoric propagated by the account.
"Hassan Kurusee" is a fictional character portrayed in some of Nasheed's writings. Despite past speculation linking the X account with the same name to Nasheed, he has consistently denied these allegations. Nasheed has even urged the police to investigate the account to identify its actual operator.
